Dr. Purdy received his medical degree from the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion, South Dakota, in 1982. Upon completion of post-graduate training and cardiology fellowship at Creighton University Affiliated Hospitals in Omaha, Nebraska, he relocated to Rapid City to join some of his colleagues to form the Heart Doctors. Dr. Purdy is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He has been acting director of the cardiac catheterization lab at Rapid City Regional Hospital since 1988.
Dr. Purdy is particularly interested in preventative medicine and is a strong believer in the Mediterranean diet and the health benefits of drinking wine in moderation. He is very active in supporting our local chapter of the American Heart Association and is currently co-chairperson of the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball fundraising gala. Dr. Purdy is a big sports fan and closely follows his Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their 6 children.
